Practical Ways To Reuse Old Curtains

Old curtains do not have to sit in the closet for too long. They can be used for so many practical uses. Instead of throwing them away or keeping them locked in place for decades, here are some tips to consider:

Turn Them into Pillowcases
Pillows can be used in beds, cushions, floor spaces, chairs, and many others. You can cover each of these pillows with cases made out of old curtains. The old fabrics should have enough area to cover as many pillows as possible. All you need is a sewing machine and some sewing skills as well.

Hide Boxes and Storage
Old curtains can provide great cover for messy storage units, boxes, toys, and other unsightly stuff. You may use a rod to hold the curtains in place or simply spread them over the storage units. You may even use them to cover tables and other flat surfaces.

Use them as Shower Curtains
There is no need to buy expensive shower curtains as long as you have unused old curtains that can be repurposed. You can even use two curtains so that they divide at the center. This is one money-saving tip you have to really consider.

Cover Unsightly-looking Walls
If you do not have the time and money to paint an unsightly wall, you may use your curtains to cover it. Painting and wallpapering can cost a lot of money and will require a lot of time. If you want a temporary cover, simply use the old fabrics. The curtains may even provide accent to a room.

Use Them as Dividers
If you have rooms that have dual purposes, then you may use the curtains to divide the space. For a more separate feel, go for dark-colored or heavy fabrics. This way, it would be harder to see what’s happening on the other side.

Use Them to Provide Privacy
Some entrances do not have doors on them to provide privacy. You may use the curtains as a door to hide what is happening inside a room. You may even use the curtains to create dressing rooms. Just make sure that no one can see through the fabric.

Use Them as Placemats
Heavy curtains provide excellent material for placements. The remaining fabric can be turned into table napkins, table runners, chair covers, cabinet covers, and many other useful home accessories.

There are so many other uses for old curtains so don’t just let them sit unused in the storage. Get some scissors and sewing equipment to start making useful home accessories. You may even use the fabrics for creative purposes. They can be turned into bags, dog beds, purses, toys for children, and other useful stuff.
